Our lives are like icebergs. Only 15% is visible; that's your rep'. The rest, your character, is hidden deep below the waterline. Character means acting the same, no matter who's watching. It's how we react to everyday agro and hassle. It's how we handle failure and success. It's making the right choices, in the small things and the big things. Israel's famous leader Joshua challenged them: 'Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve...But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.' So today, the choice is yours!
Ever notice that some people always blame other people, or their circumstances when something goes wrong? That's a sure sign that they've got a lot of learning to do in the character department. And what do you do if that's you - if 'blame' is your middle name?! Well for a start, stop flamin' blamin'! You can no more blame your lack of character on your circumstances than you can blame the mirror for your lack of good looks! Choose to change. Every time you make a good decision you take another step forward.
Take a minute now and jot down the times when you've faced a temptation recently. Next to each, note your choice. What problem areas do you see? Write down what choice you will make next time and pray that God will help you see it through.
