Healing for wounded relationships (5)

Right, we're going to spend one more day on relationships. Have you ever thought that your relationships are a bit like having a bank account? Bank accounts are great, as long as you've got money in the account! When you overspend your account goes into 'overdraft'; not good news. Before you know it nasty letters are coming through the letterbox telling you that unless you put things right they will charge you more and more. Oh, and they usually let you know that they will charge you 25 quid just for sending you the letter. Cheek! When you abuse someone's trust, you send your 'relationship account' into overdraft! There are only two things you can do:
1) Stop making withdrawals! Don't go expecting loads of favours like you normally do. This is time to practice the Jesus way, aka denying yourself (see Mark 8:34) For now, lean on God and start re-learning how to live life without that individual constantly being there to meet your needs.
2) Start making deposits! Make them small and often. Your gift will return to you...pressed down, shaken together...running over' (Luke 6:38 TLB). Quietly find ways to make life easier for the person you've hurt: use kind words and thoughtful actions. These are the things that help defrost the atmosphere and make it possible to start getting along again.
