Every minute of every day, somewhere in the world someone is taking their car to the mechanic. A lot of the time, what happens when the mechanic looks at the problem is that a whole bunch of other problems get spotted too! In the same way, a relationship breakdown can bring into focus all sorts of personal issues too, like how well we do or don't communicate, or how we cope or don't with intimacy issues.
If you want a healthy relationships then sooner or later you'll have to allow God to get His hands on areas of your own life that aren't the way He designed them to be. If you try to keep on driving your life forward without ever spending time being tweaked and tuned by the Holy Spirit don't be surprised when you break down. While we're on this sort of holy 'Top Gear' theme think about this too: every car needs oil to keep its engine running smoothly.
So what's the 'oil' of relationships? Appreciation. Saying thanks, and meaning it. Do the people close to you know that you're thankful for the things they do for you? If you haven't shown your appreciation recently then it won't be long before that relationship starts overheating! Paul told his friends 'I thank my God every time I remember you', why not do the same today?
