Early Morning Prayer - 10-23-06, 06:42 PM

Rising up a great while before day, He went out.....and prayed.
Mark 1 v 35

I am fully aware that many who take the time to read this post rise early to earn a crust, to get by. I too have been there. Rising early....indeed.....to earn a living. I am not wanting to increase your burden........but you could pray as you travel to........Amen...I feel sure He will bless....and prosper.

Wesley asked this very cogent question of his preachers. "why are we not more holy?" and he added, "Chiefly because we are enthusiasts, looking for the end without the means"

You will bear in mind that Wesley's great doctrine, next to justification by faith, was sanctification by faith. He says "Which of you rises at four in the morning in the summer?"

Well let us make it six, or any other time that might be counted early. Do you rise early? If the way of sanctification is by faith, cannot I be holy and lie in bed in the morning? It is surely easy enough to believe and keep on believing in bed. But every record of God's saints teaches this salutary lesson, that it cost's the discipline of the flesh and the renunciation of physical indulgence to tread the pathway of holiness.

George Muller was greatly influenced by the biography of George Whitefield, who rose at five and read the bible on his knees. When he was growing old his friends said, "You had better cease rising early" but he refused their kindly and gentle admonitions, choosing to rise still at five, even if later he retired to rest.

Hudson Taylor, founder of the 'China Inland Mission' could say that for years the sun had not risen and found him in bed.. I wonder if this is one of the secrets of the great saints of ages past. Gordon of Khartoum, rising early before the duties of the day, entering his small tent, putting up the flag outside to show that he was engaged, and to let the army men know that he was seeking the face of God.

The price of power...... is the way of discipline, and the way of faith.

Jesus said "I am the WAY the TRUTH and the LIFE"......Without the WAY there is no GOING, without the TRUTH there is no KNOWING without the LIFE there is no LIVING....

Well said.
About 6 months I begin to get up 30 minutes early to read my Bible, before long I changed to an hour. It was one of the best things I have ever done. I have become much closer to God with a quiet time to read His word.

lol... 5 years later... I too love praying in the morning!!

If I could get up every morning at 5, I totally would. Mornings are so beautiful and serene. But as long as I pray before I set out on my day I'm good.

I've only been doing morning prayers now for a few months, but gosh... I feel like I need them to survive, haha.

I remember as a child my mom waking us up early in the morning to kneel and pray. It was always dark and to early to get ready for school. Now as an adult I've grown lazy, I haven't been on my knees for a while, instead I pray while in bed.

What a great read this is. I know I can do more and should give more. For years every morning I wake up exactly 3:00 am or 3:15 am, my mom would say you should pray when you awake. Sometimes I do but honestly I hardly, I spent more time upset to the fact it's going to take 1hr to fall back to sleep, I feel like my day is going to be hard cause I didn't get enough rest. After reading this Brother Stephen I'm ashamed to say I'm lazy. 3:am is probably the perfect time to pray, there's no distractions.

But every record of God's saints teaches this salutary lesson, that it cost's the discipline of the flesh and the renunciation of physical indulgence to tread the pathway of holiness.

What can I lose if I use that time to pray..nothing cause I waste the time worrying. What can I gain praying 3am in the morning ?

I can't wait to find out.

Quote:
Not my will or my plans or
The way I want it
I'm so tired of my hands in the way
So reveal to these eyes the true heart of my Father, today
Lord teach me how to pray
