    Honor Thy Father and Mother

I would like to know literally what it means to Honor. In my particular situation, there is unhealthiness in the whole family. At this time it appears to everyone that I am the only sick one and that is okay I am getting better, theirs is in denile. I do not have any contact with them, their choosing and that is great with me, life is much better this way, and never been better. And this has made my relationship stronger with my Heavenly Father which they didn't really approve of ever before. So I Love then from a distance and am thankful that they gave birth to me and I pray for them. Is that enough to be honoring them ??? and also I ask GOD to help me learn to forgive them the way He is able to forgive u,
    GOD Bless,Love, Peace, and Prayers,

    Freedomwhatelse,

Great question! Literally and simply meaning, honor is the highest form of respect and esteem. God had a plan in this, Freedomwhatelse, by using Dad and Mom to fulfill His work by bringing into the world you. Now, we in turn must obey God's command and respect the position of Dad and Mom so God will honor your obedience to Him. Their conduct, however, is different from the position. God will hold all Dads and Moms accountable for their conduct, and you are correct that love and forgiveness is your servanthood, being Christ like, because God will forgive you. That is all He wants you to do. Then, let God do what God will.

Please read Deuteronomy 5:16 "Honor your father and your mother" and meditate on this. No theology is required regarding your question. God's command is literal here.

Thank You Brother Bob for confirming this for me. This is what I was under the impression of. However recently in a dream I was given sripture verse Matthew 15:5 'But you saythat if a man says to his father or mother, ' Whateverheop you might otherwise have received from me is a gift devoted to God,' and in trying to figure this out it turns out that it is right around the honoring of parents , in the verses before and after 4 & 6 , this then brought me to woundering if there was something I wasn't doing quite right yet? And I really do practice and pray like I said above. And have for many years. The Lord has already mightly shown me that if I pray for my enemies all the things I would wish for myself, He looks after the rest. Amen too that!
So if there is anything anyone could help me out with on this I would greatly appreciate the feed back. Thank You, Yours in His Name,:rose:

Am not quite sure who the commandment is referring to ... young children or adult children or both. Paul interprets the commandment as children being obedient to parents Eph. 6:1-2. When children grow up and become adults they are no longer subject to parental authority in the same way as when they were young. So I would understand adult children honoring their parents would include treating them with respect, not taking advantage of them, being there for them in their time of illness or need, helping where help is needed, staying in communication with them so they can know how you are doing... maybe even listening to their advice from time to time whether you follow it or not (and all of this even if you think they are not treating you right). After all they are our parents, they raised us taking on a lot of personal sacfice to do so.. I think we owe them that much.

Ha Ha!! My Father God has such a way about Him. LOL! This and someother curcumstances have now lead me to sudying, what does it really mean to forgive, like He forgives us?? My Lord brought everything to a stand still basically in my life this week and there were some others arond me having issues with family that I caould not really keep listening to cause it in turn brought up feelings and unresolved issues that I really had not delt with. I had also been praying for a while ,' Please Lord especially in the case with my parents I so wanted to be forgiving but would find every now and again feeling from past hurts would come up to haunt me, so in prayer I would discuss this with my Father and I guess that this is how I shall learn to forgive them without them even knowing or asking for it. I meet with a Pastor every couple of weeks and he boiled it down to maybe I needed to study forgiveness and find out what the bible says that it is, well right after meeting with him I went to bible study and something about forgiveness came up I didn't really say too much but a friend of mine had been lead to put a bible study book in her bible and at that moment thought it must be for me , it was a bible study on forgiveness , can you believe it ?? Of course you can cause this is a christian family I'm dealing with. as soon as I got half way through a couple nights later, everything has started falling back into place and I am again making the money that I need for bills.
I have likely not mentioned yet but I have a business that I have turned over to Him and He runs it and this is one of the ways that He teaches me things or gets my attention. I am coming to realize this when things slow down and themn a whole bundh of bills come in, I begin to want to worry but I know that that is not what I am to do I get into prayer and try to find out what He is dealing with me about . when I get about half way through He starts to make business pick up just enough so I always get the bills payed then when I am finished I am blessed with just a little more until the next issue, I getting to rather enjoy trying to figure out what He is leading me to next. A definate great journey in Faith! He Rules!!!!
    Yours in Him!:rose:

    Freedomwhatelse,

Praise God for confirmation, sister. His command is very clear here, Deuteronomy 5:16 "Honor your father and your mother"

    Pappa,

This is the reference of my post to the parents. Becoming adults and no longer being subject to parental authority, sacrifice, communication, etc., these are the works, which is not the point. Honor, coming from the heart, is the literary context, or main verb in the sentence of this command.

    Your brother in Christ Jesus.

This is so strange as recently I have been
praying to the Lord to speak to me in the stillness
of the night and a few nights ago I awoke with
these very words, and I spoke them on waking
'Honour your Father and your Mother'
I know it's a commandment, but I'm sure our Lord
will reveal in what I am to do, as I have a great
relationship with my parents, I have posted
about this on another thread before I saw this one,
    so please forgive that.
I will post if I get any further instruction about it,
although the new post about 'pubs' on the Chat
forum, may have been the situation involved over it.
Please let me know what you all think.
The hand of our God is upon all them for good that seek Him. Ezra 8 V22

I've Been Cruising Old Posts Again.

Ok Ok I like to cruise old posts. This one about honoring your parents is a good one.

Many many young people nowadays are totally self absorbed and dishonor their parents by either deliberate acts, or by being so self absorbed their parents are relegated to being mere incidentals.

Its true Honor thy father and mother is the first commandment with promise.
    The command;
    Exodus 20:12 (King James Version)

12Honour thy father and thy mother:

The Promise; that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

I see many young people around this city I live near who actually do dishonor their parents by simple ignorant selfishness. Not even deliberately, but by neglegence. What are their lives like, as they work and grind and strivea and compete for a story book life? Well, I see chaos in their lives, sickness, divorce, bankruptcies, and no peace, no prosperity of any kind. Well ...no prosperity that the bank doesn't own anyway.

There it is....Obedience and honor parents and prosper. Or disobey and dishonor your parents and the curse of sin will land on you. Why? You've stepped out from under GODs protection into the darkness of sin. Its in the darkness that the monsters live you know.

    Ephesians 6:1-4 ESV

Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother” (this is the first commandment with a promise), “that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.” Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

    Colossians 3:20 ESV

Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord.

    Exodus 20:12 ESV

“Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.

    Ephesians 6:1 ESV

Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.

    Proverbs 1:8 ESV

Hear, my son, your father's instruction, and forsake not your mother's teaching,

    Proverbs 30:17 ESV

The eye that mocks a father and scorns to obey a mother will be picked out by the ravens of the valley and eaten by the vultures.

    Ephesians 6:4 ESV

Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

    Exodus 21:17 ESV

“Whoever curses his father or his mother shall be put to death.

    Proverbs 22:6 ESV

Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.

    Deuteronomy 21:18-21 ESV

“If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son who will not obey the voice of his father or the voice of his mother, and, though they discipline him, will not listen to them, then his father and his mother shall take hold of him and bring him out to the elders of his city at the gate of the place where he lives, and they shall say to the elders of his city, ‘This our son is stubborn and rebellious; he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton and a drunkard.’ Then all the men of the city shall stone him to death with stones. So you shall purge the evil from your midst, and all Israel shall hear, and fear.
