I'm from the UK where few people have been to a meeting that operates the gifts as detailed in the bible!
I suspect the same is true in many other countries.
Instead there is man's tradition where the minister sticks to a set script apart from his sermon, or, disorderly meetings where the gifts are used but in a confusing way, mixed with emotion and people are not sure what God is saying or doing.
To me God's commandments" (1 Cor.14:37) in this regard are plain:-
2 or 3 gifts of tongues, one at a time, each followed by a gift of interpretation; 2 or 3 prophecies, words of wisdom and knowledge ("giving the word"), gifts of faith and healing ("prayer line" with elders).
I do know one church (Revival Fellowship) that sticks to this and it works well - all are encouraged to give and receive clear input from God who dwells equally in all.
Unfortunately, you are right, my brother. Often, in meetings where the manifestations of God the Holy Spirit occur, it becomes at least questionable when it comes to biblical integrity. Because it is an exciting experience to see the Lord working in and through His people, its easy for it to become an emotionally-driven event, rather than action of the Holy Ghost. Sometimes the emphasis focuses on the gifts instead of the purpose for which they are given. Believers desiring the mountaintop again may even develop formulas to attempt to invoke (jump-start) the manifestations. When this happens, I am firmly convinced the results are not the actions of God at all.
God desires we bring all that we are (which includes our emotions) to Him; but when our emotions are the driving force, the result is confusion. And God is not the author of confusion.

jiggyfly,
You are right, that all the Lord does is to give Jesus preeminence. Bringing the lost to Him is doing exactly that. God the Word became flesh as Jesus, lived, died, and rose again so that the lost can be redeemed to God.

Gifts of the Holy Spirit enable us to live a holy Christian life. The Gifts of the Holy Spirit are:
Wisdom - desire for the things of God, and to direct our whole life and all our actions to His honor and glory
Understanding - enable us to know more clearly the mysteries of faith
Counsel - warn us of the deceits of the devil, and of the dangers to salvation
Fortitude - strengthen us to do the will of God in all things
Knowledge - enable us to discover the will of God in all things
Piety - love God as a Father, and obey Him because we love Him
Fear of the Lord - have a dread of sin and fear of offending God

Hello Armand, this thread is about the spiritual gifts given by HolySpirit to the body of Christ. They are all listed in the first post of this thread. The things you have listed with their explainations are good but they aren't the same as the spiritual gifts. If you haven't read the thread yet, please give it a good look and feel free to comment.![]()
Religion is an ugly tyrant.

I agree; Here is Isa. 11:2 and the seven spirits of God; of course there is only one spirit.
Isaiah 11
2 And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;
3 And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears:
4 But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth: with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.
5 And righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, and faithfulness the girdle of his reins.
