Are they all judged according to the law, or is all judgement held off until Jesus's return and are given the benefit of our Lord Jesus's sacrifice to cover their sins also? Is everyone after Jesus's death only given the chance and grace to put their faith in Jesus and walk in His image to be granted eternal life?

I know some people previous to Jesus are in heaven but I would still like some light shed on this topic if someone can point me to scripture, etc.

The whole chapter of Hebrews 11 is a good place to start.
Even before Jesus came, people believed in him. They believed in a Messiah.
The last part of James 2 talks about Abraham and Rahab, and how through demonstrating their faith they were saved.

Of course there was the Jewish Law also, which involved priests and sacrifice, and following the commandments.
There are a few ways to look at this, but it was a provision for the Jews (and Gentiles who followed these practices) until Jesus came.

I'd like to add this: The blood of Jesus flows backwards and forwards in time. Abraham was covered by Jesus' blood because he had faith. This is why Jesus said this:

John 8
53 Are you greater than our father Abraham, who died? And the prophets died! Who do you make yourself out to be?"54 Jesus answered, "If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing. It is my Father who glorifies me, of whom you say, 'He is our God.' 55 But you have not known him. I know him. If I were to say that I do not know him, I would be a liar like you, but I do know him and I keep his word.56 Your father Abraham rejoiced that he would see my day. He saw it and was glad."

Literally, Abraham heard, received, and believed the gospel while it was still a mystery:

Galatians 3
7 Know then that it is those of faith who are the sons of Abraham. 8 And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, "In you shall all the nations be blessed."9 So then, those who are of faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith.

Before the LORD died for our Sins1 they went to Hell !either the paradise side or the other side ? He went to hell and Preached His gospel as His body lay in the tomb! Setting the captives free1 Those willing to accept what He did and Him as LORD !

They had to wait , Til He was first in New Jerusalem ! He had to be first at everything , and then we follow !!!

Col_1:18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.

The last sentence in (Heb 11:16) gives us to know this: "for He hath prepared for them a city".
