Teach me to do Thy will Psalm 143:10
Dear Arlyn
I am really pleased that you have asked these questions as I too would be really keen to hear peoples understanding of these scriptures.
(I have also recently been challenged about being a woman posting responses on a Christian forum... I was told it was usurping the authority of a man and no different to a woman speaking in a church...)
Up until about 1 month ago I have always been in the brethren. Women are forbidden to speak in any of the meetings... and it would be classed as wilful disobedience and the woman would be asked to be quiet or leave.
This is because of their interpretation of the verses in 1 Corinthians 14 and I Timothy 2:11. Women should always be in subjection to men.
The possibility that these verses refer to 'rowdy' 'chatty' women , would be rejected.....due to the Greek word lalein found in 1 Corinthians 14 which is translated 'speak' rather than 'speaking noisily'.
Having just moved to a church where women are involved in the services....I feel a mixture of spiritual liberation and nervous discomfort.
I look forward to hearing responses.
God bless you
Julia
