"But something keeps you from having this relationship with God, and it is called 'sin.' Let's face it, we've all made honest mistakes. You're not perfect, I'm not perfect, nobody's perfect. But God doesn't expect you to be perfect, that's why He sent His Perfect Son — so that you could have that relationship with Him again.

"If you will just admit your honest mistakes to God and say 'yes' to Jesus as your Savior, He will come into your heart and you will become a child of God. You will never be alone again, because you'll have Jesus, the ultimate friend riding 'shot-gun,' guiding you through life. That is eternal life — the abundant life Jesus came to give you. Would you like to have that life, that peace, that joy, that friend?
Thank you soooo very much for submitting this article.
The above extract just about sums up all that I dislike about 'emergent evangelism', for want of a better expression!!!!

For some reason, 'we' (as in the church) often appear obsessed with numbers i.e. " It was an amazing meeting! 50 people came forward to make a first committment to Christ!!!" (whatever that means!!!! You know the kind of thing!!! This, I believe, results in Christians making it too easy for individuals to 'cross the line' in two ways:

1. By suggesting that following Christ will some how make our lives easier, healthier.... happier!!! It's a lie!!!!!!
The early church grew so quickly because it was despersed through PERSECUTION!!! Moreover, following Jesus properly will ALWAYS cost us in some way (even if we do not happen to live in a country where following Christ can result in persecution, imprisionment or even death!)

2. By watering down our sin and it's effects upon our lives..... If we are to follow Christ our sin DOES matter, and we should find it abhorant!! If I am not offended by my sin surely I am showing nothing but contempt for Jesus' immense suffering for my sin!?

To conclude: Jesus was NOT obsessed with numbers. If anything, He tended to 'wittle down' the crowds. See for example John Ch 6: 26-69 . In short, Jesus was more interested in quality than quantity. He knew how to lead His followers in such a way that they would last the course, and cross that 'finishing line'!!!!

Thanks for this fantastic post. Very encouraging!!!!
